Inspired by Scripture

Inspired by Scripture collects poems written over a four-year period, each drawn from the readings in weekly church services. Every week, Baldwin selected a single lesson (an Old Testament passage, a Psalm, an Epistle, or a Gospel) and let it become the subject of a poem.

The result is a sustained devotional practice made visible: a poet listening, week after week, and answering scripture in his own measured lines. Baldwin, who also wrote lyrics for church anthems, brings a musician's ear and a lifetime of craft to the sacred texts.

The spiritual questioning and faith that shape this book run through Wheel of Water as well, where they meet family, memory, and conscience in a single volume.
